Kristin's love of horses started at the age of two! She began showing in lead-line classes at three years old and got her first horse for her seventh birthday. Her youth years were spent showing in all-around classes including equitation, trail, western pleasure, and horsemanship. As a youth she won 3 medal finals, 24 buckles, 10 perpetual trophies, 2 saddles, was the youth rider of with winning team for the Cue Stick Memorial award 3 years in a row, and was voted by her peers the Pete Doell Sportsmanship Award winner.
She began her reining career in 1994, but had to take a break from horses to obtain her Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California State University of Long Beach. In 2005 she began riding again and purchased her first reining horse as an adult. In 2008 she began riding with Johnette Burman with the goal in mind of qualifying for the AQHA World Championship Show in Amateur Reining. That year she made her first NRHA earnings winning over $5,500, plus won 10 buckles, and made the Ametuer Reining Finals at the AQHA World Show.
In 2012 she began riding with NRHA Professional Patrick Flaherty. That year her horse sustained a career ending injury causing Kristin to have to sit out and save money to buy another horse. In January of 2013 Kristin purchased Jac Bee Whiz and began showing in NRHA aged events. Three months later she made the Level 4, 3, 2, & 1 Non Pro finals at NRBC! Since then Kristin has steadily improved and increased her lifetime earnings doubling year over year in 2013, 2014, & 2015. In 2015 she was Reserve Champion in the Level 3 NRHA Non Pro Futurity and a Top 20 NRHA Non Pro. Then she did it again in 2017 on Gunsup In Tinseltown - Res Champ L3 Non Pro Futurity and Top 20 NRHA Non Pro. In 2018 & 2019 she and Gunsup In Tinseltown (aka Pickles) made the Level 4 Non Pro Finals at the NRBC & NRHA Derby make them 5 for 5 in L4 major even finals!
After over 15 year experience in human resources, including serving as an executive in several national retail chains, in 2016 Kristin stepped away from the corporate business world to focus on her passion for reining and showing. She began an Instagram page (@reining_style) that highlights the best dressed at major NRHA events, which quickly attracted thousands of followers. At the beginning of 2017 she was hired by Hobby Horse Clothing Company to improve their social media coverage. Additionally she volunteered her time to create and post monthly member, volunteer, trainer, & sponsor Facebook spotlights for her affiliate club, AzRHA.
In October of 2017 Kristin took over the reins as CEO of Hobby Horse Clothing Company, Inc. In this role she has undertaken the challenge of revitalizing the brand; from fresh new designs, artistic and emotional photography, to innovative marketing. With a love of horses, a passion for fashion, and a drive to empower women, she is changing the face of Hobby Horse. Check out the website at www.hobbyhorseinc.com.
